Trauma (2018-2024)

Through this photographic series, I attempt to create a dialogue around the traumatic experience that cancer caused me, from diagnosis to healing, and its long-lasting relationship with post-traumatic stress (PTSD).

These two consecutive visual approaches compose a story from different chronological phases. One relates to the period of my hospitalization in the Laiko Hospital in early 2018 when I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma of the mediastinum. The other is connected to my current perspective on past traumas, which come to life in the sight of the half-eaten thumb or the injured gums.

After all this and following five years of examinations (positron emission tomography/computed tomography – PET/CT), I find the courage to communicate it as a step towards awareness. Defining this step as the first one towards the healing of psychosomatic wounds.
